Black lives matter is a decentralized movement that advocates for non-violent civil disobedience in protest against incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against African-American people.The movement was founded on July 13,2013. The founding members are Patrisse Cullors,Alicia Garza,Opal Tometi.
From 2013 to 2019 about 17% of black people who died as a result of police harm were unarmed, a larger share than any other racial group and about 1.3 times more than the average of 13%.In 2019 people of color were more likely to be brutalized by the police than previous years. In fact 54% of the people who died due to the police in 2019 were people of color.AS of 2020 there has been 375 known deaths caused by police brutality 105 are african americans,204 are white americans,and 66 are hispanic americans.Although 60.4% of americans are white and alonely 13% are black the number of deaths are relativly closed as for hispanic american who are only 18% of the american population their deaths from police brutality are lower than black americans.Although more attention is being brought to this issue only 1% of officers are charged.
As technology increases and new information are discovered the health of americans increase. However, African americans still have higher rates of morbidity and mortality than white americans. NOt only those black americans face systematic discrimination hispanic and native americans also have elevated death rates.In America black women are 2 to 6 times more likely to die from complications during labor than white women.In comparison to white americans poeple of color have less access to medical care. The reason for this is the under representation in good paying jobs that include health insurance.
